Waltham, MA, US - June 8, 2023 – Northway Biotech, a biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), established in 2004, with an EMA and FDA-compliant, state-of-the-art cGMP manufacturing site in Vilnius, Lithuania, has marked a significant achievement with the completion of its cGMP manufacturing facilities expansion project in Waltham, Massachusetts. This growth extends the firm's existing track record in delivering state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical solutions to partners worldwide.
The advanced biomanufacturing suites feature a microbial fermentation train that supports up to 450 liters and a mammalian production train with the capacity to manage volumes up to 2,000 liters. In addition to this, the facility is equipped with a fully automated fill and finish line, significantly enhancing the capability for high-throughput filling into diverse formats such as vials, syringes, and cartridges.
Northway Biotech's CEO, Prof. Vladas Algirdas Bumelis, reflected on this milestone, stating, "By successfully integrating the GMP suites into our US operations, we've made a strategic leap forward. This enables us to deliver comprehensive solutions across two separate sites and positions us optimally to serve our partners with an unprecedented degree of speed and efficiency."
In honor of this significant expansion, Northway Biotech hosted two grand opening events on June 6th and June 8th. The inaugural event, graced by a delegation of Lithuanian biotechnology companies attending the BIO 2023 conference, was led by Ms. Aušrinė Armonaitė, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania. The second event, held two days later, welcomed Northway Biotech's clients, prospective customers, and esteemed Boston officials to explore the state-of-the-art facilities, fostering a platform for valuable discourse within the biotech community.
